Shaving your Puggy

It’s getting hot again here in Houston.  We usually keep both Pugs’ hair shaved short with a 10″ blade cut.  They look the same, but more lean and thinner.  I can not emphasize enough that once you shave, life with Pugs is so much cleaner, and they look better.  No more hair on beds, sofas, cars, all over the house, and all over you.  Once you shave your Puggy, you will know what I mean.  Anyways, we usually go to the groomers but after Porky got his heat spots, I started to look into doing it myself because the groomers don’t seem too sanitary.  Here is a cool video on how to shave your dog.  I am going to try this over the weekend.  We are going to use our Booster Bath and favorite Jojoba & Chamomile Organic Shampoo.   Stay tune for some cute pics this weekend!

Whoa, you can shave a pug?!? I never even thought of that. It gets SUPER hot here in SW FL in the summer, too, so I may have to look into that.

Will you post some pics of the boys after they get shaved? I’m dying to see how it looks!

Suki’s Mom – Usually in the winter, the Pugs stop shedding so we let their hair grow out. Otherwise, they are always shaved. Once we started last year, we wondered why we waited so long….plus they look more lean and fit. If you look at Brownie’s pictures from the last two weeks, his hair is shaved. It’s the 10″ Blade. We don’t shave off all the hair down to the skin. It’s just really short. Porky did not get a shave because he had heat spots. Stay tune for more pictures!

Do you just buy a regular razor to shave them? I think this would be really great for Zelda because she’s black!

Could you send me a video or step by step instructions on shaving my pug? I really need some shed relief. Do you use special pet hair trimmers or will any trimmers work? Do you only shave their torsos? Your pugs look amazing!

If you have never shaved your Pug before, you may want to find a book on dog grooming before starting. While I have never personally shaved my Pugs (my husband has a few times), it looks the same as using clippers on human hair except you have to spray the cooling spray on the clippers frequently as it may get super hot and burn them.

Nowadays, we have a great groomer who shaves the Pugs for us which saves a lot of time. I really suggest takng them to the groomers as it oes take a long time and can be extremely tricky…I like to leave it to the professionals.

    Good luck!
