There’s been a lot of talk about flax seed and how great it is. Flaxseed has been around forever but only in recent years, made a huge comeback for the health conscious. Here’s some interesting info I found on WedMD.com:
Flaxseed is very high in omega-3 essential fatty acids, Lee explains. It’s the omega 3s — “good” fats — that researchers are looking at in terms of their possible effects on lowering cholesterol, stabilizing blood sugar, lowering the risk of breast, prostate, and colon cancers, and reducing the inflammation of arthritis,
I have been extremely concern over Porky’s hips and hind leg movement. It’s starting to drag a little when he climbs up the stairs. Part of it was due to his weight but he’s managed to lose a lot of weight in the last year. I have been giving him treats and supplements with glucosamine and chondroitin. I was talking about dog food with one of our customers and they told me to add flaxseed to Porky’s diet.
The customer comes in to get Innova Senior Plus for their 12 year old dog who not only is in fantastic physical shape and health for his age but also does agility. They told me their dog’s energy level did well with the Innova dog food and that they added a teaspoon of freshly grinded flaxseed to the normal kibble they give him. We were talking about the recent article in yahoo.com about whether glucosamine and chondroitin really work and the husband told me that he’s a scientist and they have conducted clinical trials which have shown that glucosamine really helps with joint health and condroitin does not. He also added that him, his wife, and dog all add all natural whole flaxseed to their daily diet. They buy it whole and grind it themselves. Other than the major benefits everyone knows about, it also helps with joint health. I went to GNC and got these two flaxseeds to try for Mr. Pork. Will keep you posted on the results after a month or so.

I am still in disbelief that it snowed here in Houston last week. It was 33-36 degrees here last week. The weather is weird with the extreme hot, then cold and freezing, then warm…during all this, we have rain which comes sporadically through the day, whenever it feels like. I was worried about Porky & Brownie catching a cold since I noticed their appetites have not been that great the last few days plus they both have wet, drippy noses. This is their first time in such cold weather.
I got Brownie a Seattle Slicker Rain Vest in large and am waiting on the backorder for a size XL for Porky. I am in love with this jacket. It has a detachable hood which buttons down to the top of the jacket so the hood doesn’t fall forward and cover his eyes. The fleece inside is super soft, warm, and fits Brownie’s deep Pug chest very good. We love the detachable water resistant shell since we can take it off when we get in the house and not get water everywhere and Brownie can still wear the fleece to stay warm. It’s got a strong magnet on the back of the shell and the fleece so if the wind is blowing or when they are running, the vest stays in tact and keeps them warm. I love the drawstring toggles on each of the sides since Pugs tend to have girthy chest but skinny waist. This makes the vest look more fitted for them and keep the warmth in. Whenever Brownie lifts his leg to pee, the bottom and sides of the vest don’t flap around. This rain vest jacket is just the best! Brownie is definitely more willing to go outside for walks. He doesn’t like to go otside if it is cold, wet or raining. The hubby usually is not a huge fan of me dressing up the Pugs but even he loves this rain vest. He keeps asking me when Porky’s going to get his size xl rain vest!
More good news…this rain vest just went on sale for $39.99! Yippy!
It’s 30 degrees in the morning and freezing…Brownie was so excited to wear his new rain vest. He actually wanted to go outside!
Brownie got some rain on his vest but didn’t seem to mind at all.
Yup he’s peeing.
Since Porky was cold and did not have his size XL yet, I put on his Tobey Lilysweats hoodie. As you can tell, he’s put on some winter weight.

Gosh this year has gone by so fast. I took tons of pictures with every intention to blog about them…I even had the funny story lines thought out to add an extra pugly humor but atlas, no post to show for them. In the past year, Porky & Brownie have visited Grandma and Grandpa for a month and we have gone to visit Germany, China, and a few states here. It’s been so busy that my next new year resolution is going to have to be organizing this years pictures and blogging about them!
When we first moved to our quite neighborhood, there was only 3 homes in our cul-de-sac and we knew everyone’s names. In a short two years, we now have 10 homes in our cul-de-sac. In the last few months, we got neighbors right next to us (we did not have any for two years – it was all empty land) and one of them has two dogs. They did a great job of decorating their home. I love the alternating mint candy lights and snowflakes. So cute.
Our other new neighbor a few doors down from me has two beautiful labs. The yellow lab just gave birth and subsequently got spade as well. Here they are saying hi to us when we were taking our morning walk.
I finally got around to making our holiday cards but unfortunately, have been too busy to send them out. Since I reformatted my pc and lost my encryption ID (hard lesson learned – don’t password encrypt files if you are going to reformat your pc), I don’t have my excel list of everyone’s addresses. One a PC is reformatted, it generates a new ID for the computer and so when you try to open an password saved encrypted file on a file hard, it will not recognize you. I learned this after countless hours on Microsoft’s help website and tons of forums. My professional and personal network list is all in my head less actual addresses. Need to get cracking on that next year. Meanwhile, here’s our holiday card…can you guess which Pug is this? This Santa Dog Suit fits Puggies very well.
